দাহ

মরিয়মরা পালাচ্ছে। মরিয়মদেরকে পালাতে হয়। তাদের বাড়বাড়ন্তকে সমাজ ভালো চোখে দেখে না। একথা মরিয়ম (অথবা মন্দিরাদের মতো একেকজন) নিজের জীবন দিয়ে উপলব্ধি করেছে। হাইওয়ের উপরে কয়েকটা আলো জ্বলছে। কয়েকটা টয়োটার হেডলাইট। উপরে কয়েকটা অবয়ব। মাথায় কাপড় ঢাকা। কয়েকটা বিসদৃশ নল উঁচিয়ে রয়েছে তাদের পিঠ থেকে। মরিয়ম নিজের গাড়িটাকে থামিয়ে দিতে বলল। তারপর ? আফগানিস্তানের মহিলা বিচারকদের অনিশ্চিত ভবিষ্যতের উপরে ছোটগল্পের আঙ্গিকে এ যেন এক নিবিষ্ট অন্বেষণ।

বোরখা এবং ওরা

বোরখা যে কতটা অসম্মানের ও অস্বাস্থ্যের (আমাদের মতো গ্রীষ্মকালীন ঘর্মাক্ত আবহাওয়ায়) সে ব্যাপারে সজাগ নন তাঁরা। অসম্মানটা বিশেষ করে পুরুষদের। বোরখা মানে পুরুষ শুধুই কামুক। বোরখা মানে পুরুষ বড় উত্তেজক। বোরখা মানে পুরুষ যে ধর্ষক। বোরখা মানেই পুরুষ থেকে সাবধান। প্রকৃত অর্থে বোরখার প্রচলনের সঙ্গে তৈরি হয়েছে পুরুষের নিম্নে অবস্থানের ধারণা।

আফগানিস্তান এখন, ২০২২

মানুষকে বুঝতে হবে মানুষের সবচেয়ে বড় অবদান মানুষ ও মনুষ্যত্ব। ঈশ্বর মানুষকে সৃষ্টি করেননি, মানুষই ঈশ্বরভাবনার জন্ম দিয়েছে। অবাঞ্ছিত ধর্মবিশ্বাস অথবা অপ্রয়োজনীয় ধর্মভীরুতাকে হাতিয়ার করে যদি কোনও দল বা গোষ্ঠী রাজনৈতিক বা প্রশাসনিক ক্ষমতা দখলে সক্রিয় হয়ে ওঠে, তবে সবচাইতে আগে তারই বিরোধিতা করা প্রয়োজন। আমরা কি খাব, কি পরব অথবা কি পড়ব, তা কোনও আকাশচারী ঈশ্বরের এক্তিয়ারভুক্ত নয়। মানুষই কেবল নিজেদের অক্ষমতা দেখাতে, অথবা দুর্বলের ক্ষমতা জাহিরের প্রয়োজনে এমন একেকটি ধারণাকে সৃষ্টি করেছে।

‘জান, জিন্দগি, আজাদি’ – আফগানিস্তান

আফগান মেয়েদের জীবনে সবচেয়ে বড় সমস্যা হয়ে দাঁড়াচ্ছে আফগান পুরুষেরাই। তালিবানকে যত না ভয় বা গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়, এই প্রসঙ্গে নিজের বাড়ি, নিজের সমাজ, অথবা নিজের পরিবারের অন্য যে কোনও পুরুষ কি বলবে, অথবা কিই বা বলতে পারে, এই চিন্তাতেই আফগান মেয়েদের দিন কাটে। পুরুষতন্ত্র সেখানে প্রকট ও প্রকাশিত। তালিবানদের আগেই আফগান মেয়েদের একটা বড় অংশকেই হার মেনে বসতে হয় নিজের পরিবারের কাছে। সেই সমাজকর্মীদের কথায়, মেয়েদের অধিকারের আন্দোলন – কেবলই তো মেয়েদের নয়, পুরুষেরও তাতে সমান ভাবে দায়িত্ব রয়েছে।

They flew freely once, and shone brilliantly across the skies. They are no more allowed to do so. Think for once, how it feels to have learnt to dream and then denied the permission to use the knowledge acquired. You know how the food tastes. You are not allowed to eat, and you are beaten, molested, raped and killed if you desire. One can never comprehend how it feels to have taught to dream and denied to do the same, all at once over generations in repetition.

তালিবানকে প্রতি সপ্তাহে পাঠানো মার্কিনি অর্থসাহায্য? ঠিকই শুনেছেন, আগস্ট ২০২১ থেকে প্রতি সপ্তাহে পাঠানো এই সাহায্যের পরিমাণ ৪ কোটি মার্কিন ডলার। ভারতীয় মুদ্রায় আনুমানিক ৩২০ কোটি টাকা, প্রতি সপ্তাহে! মার্কিন প্রশাসনের তরফেই জানানো হয়েছে আগস্ট ২০২১ থেকে আজ অবধি তালিবান-শাসিত আফগানিস্তানে পাঠানো মার্কিনি সাহায্যের পরিমাণ আনুমানিক ১১০ কোটি মার্কিন ডলার। এই টাকাতে টান পড়ার আশঙ্কা শুরু হতেই মোল্লা-নেতাদের নরম হওয়ার প্রক্রিয়া শুরু হয়েছে।

Darkest Hours: Why Do We Write?

 I am reminded of a word while describing this silence, as 'Agantuk' Manomohan Mitra mentioned it in the famous film directed by Satyajit Ray. Once upon a time the longest word in English language was, 'floccinaucinihilipilification', which meant 'of little or no value'. That is surely what best describes this so-called retribution of the Upper World. The silence is deafening.

On Identifying the Dissenters and the Aggressed

When Barbara Lee emerged as the lone dissenting lawmaker against the AUMF in 2001, her mailbox was flooded with hate mails, she continued to receive hundreds and thousands of threat calls on her phone and she willingly accepted everything. She knew at that time when emotions were running high throughout the nation, it will not allow a rational voice to speak. But she did what she could on her part and registered her lone opposition against the proposal.
